‘The ANCYL Mangaung RTT Applauds R921 Million Debt Victory under Gregory Nthatisi’s Leadership’

By Teboho Khoarane

The ANC Youth League Regional Task Team (RTT) in Mangaung weighed their revolutionary celebration following the decisive and historic move by the ANC-led Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality to fully settle its R921 million Water debt to Vaal Central Water. This is not merely a financial milestone, but it is a political affirmation of what disciplined, capable, and visionary ANC leadership can deliver within our region.

This moment is not simply about the political leadership that resolved the Municipal debt, but it is the incarnation of conscious political action, where disciplined leadership translates strategic intent into measurable delivery for the residents of Mangaung.

Confirmed by Minister of Water and Sanitation Ms Penny Majodina, this bold act of repayment positions Mangaung Metro as a model of ANC-led financial recovery and political maturity. At a time when 39 municipalities have failed to comply with national treasury administrative requirements, Mangaung showed merit alone in the Free State as the only Metro that has restored its credibility and consistence on restoring dignity of residents within the City.

In the spirit of revolutionary governance, the RTT of the ANC Youth League is reminded of the timeless words of Kwame Nkrumah, who taught us “that thought without action is empty, and action without thought is blind”, said ANCYL Mangaung RTT Coordinator Itumeleng Ntsube.

This success is a direct result of the principled leadership of Mayor Gregory Nthatisi and the unwavering oversight of the ANC Regional Executive Committee, led by the Council Speaker Cllr. Lawrence Mathae, both of whom have steered the municipality away from collapse, failure and toward institutional renewal.

This achievement is not just a technical victory, but it is a strategic turning point for the people of Mangaung. The Metro’s action likely prevented the financial collapse of the Vaal Central Water Board, as noted by parliamentary committees. It restores trust, proves capacity, and affirms the ANC’s position as the only political force capable of leading Mangaung out of crisis. Where others defaulted, Mangaung delivered, where chaos brewed, the ANC restored order and where confidence was eroded, governance was rebuilt.

Furthermore the ANC Youth League calls on the municipality to ensure that this bold fiscal achievement is followed by equally bold Investments in the youth of Mangaung and priorities lies on the re-establishment of the Youth Unit, a transparent municipal bursary programme, direct support for youth-owned businesses and township economies and expansion of skills development and public works initiatives that put young people to work. The communities of Rocklands, Batho Location, Botshabelo, Heidedal, and Thaba Nchu must now feel the benefit of a municipality that is no longer shackled by debt.
