Bloemfontein – In a powerful stand against gender-based violence (GBV), the Banna Buang Free State Men’s Forum has launched a bold and emotional initiative: a Long Walk for Justice from Bloemfontein to Matatiele, Eastern Cape. The walk, starting on 28 April 2025 from Hoffman Square, is a call to action — a journey of over 400 km to demand justice for the voiceless victims of GBV.

This symbolic march honors the lives of those affected, including Cwecwe, Pesa Pheko, Puseletso Sebata and her son, Nthabiseng Rakaku, Bongiwe Phulampa, and many others whose pain reflects the deep wounds in our society.

“We walk not because it is easy, but because silence is too heavy to carry. The pain of our people moves our feet,” said the Forum in a statement. The walk will pass through towns along the route, where awareness talks and community engagements will be held, calling on South Africans to break the silence, reject abuse, and stand united against all forms of violence.

Banna Buang calls on community members, organizations, churches, and donors to support this mission — whether in spirit, by sharing the message, or through material donations such as food, sleeping bags, running shoes, and backpacks. The family of Cwecwe has expressed their full support and will receive the walkers in Matatiele on 1 May 2025.
