On Thursday 22 August 2024, MMC for Community Services Cllr. Alfred Qai, HOD for Community Services Dr Thabang Thinda and MMM Councillors went to check the progress of Naliesview Cemetery, which is an extension to the cemeteries in Bloemfontein.
Dr Thinda said the progress of the cemetery is an achievement for Mangaung Metro, as the City received a report on the progress made which included the following
- Affected access road users report (Public Participation)
- Water Use License Application
- Environmental Impact assessment
- Geotechnical study
- Flooding study
- Engineering services report. Bulk level of electrical services
- Pegging of even plus general plan
- Contour survey
- Traffic Impact assessment for authorization by the South African National Roads Agency Limited (SANRAL)
During inspection the officials found infrastructure vandalized such as toilets seats, electrical cables and basins which were already build. Dr Thabang Thinda said it was a waste for the city as the cemetery was not functional for the past 2 years, as the same infrastructure has to be replaced again by the Municipality when the official opening of Naliesview Cemetery Commence.
