The cleaning campaign comes at a time when Executive Mayor Cllr. Gregory Nthatisi has called upon the community of Mangaung to beautify the open areas into beautiful parks for children and community leisure. The open area was previously used as an illegal dumping site.

Community members approached Parks and Cemetery, to turn the open area into a recreational space to avoid the illegal dumping.

The day activities included the planting of trees from Botanical Gardens as part of their greening programs and City parks with the community members. Destea advised the community to adopt a program called “climate smart” to utilize waste into smart gardens inside their homes.
