Siwelele Seals SuperSport United Deal

SuperSport International has officially confirmed the sale of its Premier Soccer League (PSL) club SuperSport United to Siwelele Football Club. This would mark a new journey of the team which has built a strong legacy in South African football over the years. The move signals exciting changes ahead, as Siwelele Football Club takes over the reins with fresh energy and new vision for the future.

SuperSport United has grown into one of South Africa’s most respected clubs in the history of the Premier Soccer League and for its strong development structures and competitive performances. The club boasts three PSL league titles (2007-08, 2008-09, and 2009-10), also wining Nedbank Cup five times and multiple MTN 8 trophies. The club has produced the likes of Ronwen Williams, Daine Klate, Teboho Mokoena and has one of the best coaches’ likes of Gavin Hunt, Pitso Mosimane, and the late Thomas Madigage.

The sale marks the end of an era but also the start of a new journey as Siwelele Football Club steps in with fresh ambition and vision for the future. The new chapter will be led by Cavin Le John, the owner of Siwelele Football Club who now takes full ownership of the team. Le John a passionate football enthusiast and entrepreneur, who has expressed his commitment to build a legacy for the people of Bloemfontein. This comes after Bloemfontein Celtic got sold to its status to Durban based side Royal AM on 17 August 2021, as confirmed by the PSL executive committee ahead of the 2021-22 season.

New owner Cavin Le John has expressed his excitement and gratitude following the successful purchase of SuperSport United, he described the moment as a major step forward for Siwelele Football Club and people of Bloemfontein.   

“As Siwelele FC, we are privileged to be entrusted with the responsibility of continuing a proud and successful PSL legacy. SuperSport and the MultiChoice Group have created an incredible platform over the past 30 years, and we aim to build on that — pending final approval from the PSL Executive Committee.”

 It remain to be seen if they will relocate to Bloemfontein.
