By Teboho Khoarane

On Tuesday 10 June, 2025 the MEC for Community Safety, Roads and Transport Jabu Mbalula together with Provincial Commissioner LT. General Motswenyane and South African Police Services in Free State held a Media Briefing Crime Statistics for 2025/2026 Financial Year. This engagement comes after the Hourable Minister of Police Mr Semzo Mchunu, released crime figures nationwide on Friday 24 May. The MEC is his opening remarks, thanked the SAPS in the province for their continued work and commitment to tackle crime in the Free State.

“We cannot allow our graveyards to be filled law abiding citizens, law enforcement should respond with the power bestowed upon them by the constitution, and respond harsh to criminals ruining our province and threatening safety of residents”, added Mbalula.

“We are working hard as the department and South African Police Services to see the safe return of Kamogelo Baukudi,  who was kidnapped recently in Bloemfontein and we urge anyone with information to come forward and assist us to combat the pandemic of crime on children and women.

“Crime is a social problem that calls for cooperation from all members of society, not just law enforcement. In addition to reflecting Crime patterns, these statistics are an essential tool for evaluating success of our policing tactics, pinpointing problem areas, and fortifying our alliances with local communities and other crime-fighting stakeholders”, concluded MEC Mbalula.
